The answer depends on many factors. * How big is the app? if it can be manually tested for corrIectness in 10 minutes, then test automation is definitely not worth it. * What is the development roadmap? If your planning on adding features over many years and having many releases, automated tests definitely make sense. * How big is the team? The bigger the team the more test automation makes sense.

The biggest problems with Selenium is its time consuming to create good, long lasting tests. You typically need a framework of which Selenium is but one component to do so. You need an infrastructure against which to run the tests.

Compared to some alternatives like Watir, Selenium can be a bit harder to setup, maintain, and develop tests for.
